Sometimes John cursed his gentlemanly streak. If he were more of a bad boy, he would have held Gia’s clothes hostage while he washed them and thoroughly enjoyed taking advantage of her nakedness.

As it was, after gathering her far-flung garments, he offered her one of his shirts and a pair of boxers.

“There’s only a community washer here,” John told her as her creamy skin disappeared under his old Kiss the Chef shirt. “Is that okay?”

She laughed, tying her hair back. “John, I live in the dorms. I have to wear flip-flops in the shower. Of course it’s okay.”

He nodded and added Gia’s clothes to his laundry basket, trying not to stare at her panties or to remember how they’d slid down her naked thighs the night before…

Covering the tempting article with another one of his shirts, he went to put the load in.

When he returned, the smell of coffee permeated his apartment, reminding John that he could not survive on Gia alone.

She looked so at home in his kitchen, wearing his clothes, that John lingered in the doorway just to watch. She was searching though cupboards, making a sound of success when she found the mugs.

“Oh, shit!” she cried when she turned around to find him staring at her like an idiot. “You scared me!”

“Sorry,” he said, prowling toward her.

“I’m making coffee,” she told him, mugs held in front of her as he crowded her against the counter.

“I like coffee,” he said, putting an arm on either side of her. “But I need something to make it sweet.”

“Such a bad line,” she whispered, but her gaze had dropped to his lips.

“Doesn’t matter,” he said with a shrug. “I’m still gonna kiss you.”

The mugs she was still holding dug into his chest as he claimed her mouth, giving her a thorough reminder of how good they were together. The kiss was anything but sweet, Gia sucking on John’s tongue until he grew dizzy. He was wondering if she would like being taken against the counter, when their stomachs grumbled in tandem.

“Stupid body,” Gia grumbled when he broke the kiss, resting his forehead against hers.

“I like your body,” John teased, in one of the biggest understatements of the century. “But I’ll make us breakfast.”

John kept a well-stocked kitchen, so it wasn’t hard to pull together a breakfast that was probably a little too much. He fried some eggs, tomatoes, bacon, and potatoes with onions, and made toast to sop it all up with.

Gia prepared their coffee—he made note of how she took it—and watched him cook.

“Oh, I forgot!” she said suddenly, rushing to the other room. When she returned, she was holding a pastel green bakery box.

“My roommate Shelby brought these for me last night. Her brother’s girlfriend is a cookie artist.” She cracked open the box to reveal the spectacularly decorated angel cookies. “Wanna try?”

“They’re too pretty,” he protested, still reaching for one.

Gia laughed. “That’s what I said. But she insisted they’re meant for eating.”

The first bite was an explosion of perfectly balanced sugar, butter, and salt.
